My Week in Washington

This past week was so much fun! Not only did I have a blast with my fam relaxing in Washington, but my sister-in-law, Katie, got back from her mission. There were so many fun and hilarious things that happened. The first couple of days we were home were pretty relaxing and mellow.  Conner, my 2 year old nephew, as usual was a stinking crack up. He alone made the trip a blast! On Monday we were making home made pizza so my mom, sisters (chelsey and emma) and I were getting ingredients ready. Conner felt very left out and discovered that where the spices were kept, went and grabbed a pan and some seasonings and took them over to his little play kitchen and began pretending to dump ingredients in the pan and stir them. He then called each of us over individually at different times during the evening, held the pan in our face and said enthusiastically, "I cook! Smell!" We were dying, it was so funny!
Another fun part of the trip (although I don't know how much Chelsey enjoyed this) was being awakened by Conner every morning. He was always in such an excited mood to wake everyone up, and it was quite a fight for Chels to get him not to. I don't think that anyone minded, though. One morning we were in Emma's bedroom and he came in to wake us up. My mom, Emma, Chelsey and I were all visiting for a while when Conner picked up a statue Emma had of the Seattle LDS Temple. He held it up and said, "Temple! Nenus (which is Jesus in conner language) house!" and we all praised him for knowing that the temple his Jesus' house. Then he put it down, knocked on it three times and said, "HELLO NENUS!!" hahaha! I think that it was one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen a kid do in my life!
Another funny thing about Conner is that he has an infatuation with belly buttons and thinks that they are hilarious. Much of the trip was spent with Conner seizing opportunities of lifting up mine and Emma's shirts to rub our belly buttons and say, "nice." and the he would laugh. What a goof! I love that kid!
Wednesday, I met my mother-in-law in Seattle to pick up Katie. Kay, my mother-in-law was pretty much beside herself with excitement. We arrived at the airport 40 minutes early and then the plane was delayed for about an hour. So, we went to Starbucks and got a salted carmel hot cocoa. Although it sounds crazy, it was so good! I don't like very sweet drinks, and I HATE carmel in drinks, but it was divine. I would definitely recommend it! Anyway, we spent the rest of the day with Katie and the next day went shopping for normal, non missionary clothes for Katie. That night Katie came over to spend the night at my family's house in Poulsbo, and she pretty much instantly won Conner over. He adored her. For the next two days he ONLY wanted Katie to sit by him in the car and wanted her to do everything that he did. It was pretty adorable. Friday we all went to a pumpkin patch and corn maze. It was really fun, especially for Conner. There were goats, sheep, llamas and cows for him to look at and pet. There was a pumpkin patch, an small enclosed area to ride little kid bikes (I'm pretty sure it was only meant for little kids, but we "adults" got on the bikes too) and there was also a little kid maze made out of hay bales. We thought Conner would like that, but we were wrong. He liked everything else, though :)
Saturday we went to Seattle and walked around Pike Place, which is always a fave of mine. It always just turns into a way to eat a lot of interesting stuff, and I had my first piroshkys which are AWESOME! At pike place I held a craw fish which was kind of nasty, and it almost pinched me.     Fortunately, I moved my fingers quick enough to avoid it, though. Then, it was time to take Katie back to the ferry to go back to meet up with the rest of the fam, which was sad :(
Later that night my mom, dad, Emma, Jordan (emma's b/f) and I went to a corn maze. First of all, I have to say that my parents rock at reading maps and having a good sense of direction. I was rediculously lost pretty much the whole time, but it was so much fun. My parents and I went together and after we had made it through we decided to hide in the corn and scare people. I know it sounds really sinister, but it was SOOO MUCH FUN! I loved seeing my parents act like teenagers! we were laughing so hard. It was awesome!       Then, after we got home we carved pumpkins. I was exausted and didn't want to participate, but my parent's coerced me into it. My pumpkin turned out pretty ugly, though.
The next day, Sunday, was my grandpa's 70th birthday party so we headed down to Belfair and had a BBQ on the beach with my 2 uncles and their wives and my grandparents. There were tons of smelt swimming by in schools and so we decided to start catching them. It was so much fun! We just starting pulling in net fulls of them. My dad had started it from a platform above the water, but without luck and before long we had his shoes off and was wading in to his shins. Still without luck he waded in about to his knees. Then, after some success and still with fish in his net he lost his footing and was completely submersed in the water. I'm sure it was freezing for him, but it was pretty histerical to the rest of us! I'm pretty sure that I'll always remember that. Then, Jordan, Emma and I got started, and it was a blast and we had ton of luck. Jordan caught tons of them! Unfortunately, though, there was a miscommunication and nobody had actually wanted to take the smelt home so we released them. It was a blast catching them, though.
Then, Monday was spent shopping and relaxing and Tuesday I came back home to a spotless apartment. (Way to go Aaron!) I have felt so blessed to have such wonderful family on both sides! I'll try to upload pictures of the trip :)

Home at last

My mom and grandma, Nada, got into town late Tuesday night to spend some time in Rexburg with all of us kids. Wednesday we went shopping in the thriving metropolis of Idaho Falls (ok, yes, I was being sarcastic), but surprisingly we got some fab deals! One of the cutest things that happened was when Chelsey (my sister-in-law) and her son Conner, my mom, grandma and I went to the Mall. My grandma wanted to just sit in the car, but as we started to walk towards to mall Conner yelled "Nayna, Come!" repeatedly. It was so cute and hilarious!
We had a really fun week, and Conner, who is 2, was the entertainment. My mom, grandma, Chelsey, Conner and I got up at 4 this morning and headed out to Washington. We finally got home just after 7 pm. We're all tired, but it feels so nice to be home. The only thing that could make it better would be to have Aaron here too. It's amazing how much you appreciate the little things about a place. As we were about to Hood River it started pouring rain. The smell was so fresh and clean. I LOVED IT! The green and humidity has been sorely missed since I've been in Idaho. :-) It so comfortable to be here. I'll try to post what's going on and add pictures.

Busy Busy Busy...

So today has been one of those days where you're busy, but it feels like nothing is getting done. Work went so great today! My kid was on his best behavior that he's ever been on since we've worked together. I think that he's just getting really excited that he gets two weeks off for spud harvest :) He even told me that we're buddies, which was pretty cute coming from a 12 year old.
After work I had all these ambitious ideas about getting our storage unit cleaned out (done), going through our food storage and preparing some easier meals like whole grain pancake mix (done), cleaning out the 2nd bedroom and boxing everything to put back in the storage unit (fail), going to the gym (fail), completing some homework (currently working on), and go to bed early. Well, for me, 9 o'clock bedtime is ideal. It's not 10, and I'm not even close to being ready . And, to top it all off, because I'm blogging while listening to a web lecture, I just accidentally closed the tab with the lecture. Oops. You can only take so much on health behavior theories, right?
Today hasn't been all bad, though. Now that I've written everything I had intended to do it's made me realize that I actually got more done than I thought, which always makes you feel better. Like I mentioned earlier, My kid was really really good today. He was so good that I even let him read captain underpants for about 15 minutes in language arts. He was ecstatic about that! The other day he said something pretty funny. He kept saying something to me, and for the life of me I couldn't understand and thing. Finally he said rather annoyed, "Why do you keep asking me WHAT whenever I speak to you? Are you deaf?!?!" And I said, "Actually, I kind of am deaf. I have a perferated tympanic membrane which basically means I have an extra hole in my ear." He looked really shocked and kind of sad and said, "Mrs. Burch, I'm sorry that you're disabled." hahaha. It was so funny. I about died. I don't think he'll ever accuse anyone of being deaf again.
So, my mom and grandma are coming into town tomorrow or Wed, and I am very excited, but that's part of the reason I'm feeling rushed to get things done today and tomorrow. Starting Wed, the kids have 2 weeks off of school for spud harvest which means that I get 2 weeks off of work. I know, I'm really unlucky, right? :) Anyway, so my mom is coming into town and then I'm going back to WA with her until the 11th. (I can't wait to get back there!!!) A couple of days after I get back to Idaho, Katie, Aaron's sister, is coming to stay with us for a couple of months until we move home in Dec. So, I have to get that bedroom ready for someone to live in it, and get all of our things packed up in boxes to make the move easier in Dec. I probably should be doing more homework instead of blogging, but I feel like I really need to keep up on this. I just started Saturday. I can't give up so soon. Hopefully something interesting will happen tomorrow and I'll be able to share it with all of you. It's funny how for so long every day I've thought "OMG, that was so funny. I should write a blog." And now that I have one, nothing cool has happened. ha!

Starting Out

So, I've been deliberating on whether or not to start a blog for quite a while. To me, it seems like blogs can be extremely egocentric so that has been a deterrent. But, because of the nature of work I do (those of you who are friends of mine on facebook know this to be true) from time to time there are particularly hilarious things that seem to happen to me. For example, a couple weeks ago my client came up behind me in his art class and cut the back of my hair. Although I don't want anything like that to happen again, I think that a blog is the perfect forum to share the details to amuse friends and family.

A couple of things about me really quickly that I'm sure will come up as I blog more:
I have been married to Aaron for 3 years (we just had our anniversary on the 19th). I have two nieces, one nephew and another niece on the way and I ADORE these kids. I do social work and so my job is basically working with people who have mental health challenges. I'm currently working with a 12 yr old who has severe ADHD. For my last job I worked with a woman who was terrified of being around other people so for her therapy we joined a craft group. Since then, I have become kind of an old lady and crochet all the time. I LOVE going to the gym and go about 5 to 6 times per week. And finally, one of my favorite things to do is cook!

I hope that this blog is entertaining for all of you and you enjoy it. I'll add more later when I get back from the gym.
